Stupid Lines

stupidlines

It was not long ago some one referred a trendline as a “stupid line”. This is poetic tragedy, what we don’t understand, we call “stupid”. I think we technicians are the bravest souls around sticking to it despite all odds.

Here’s another bunch of “Stupid Lines” I have sketched for you and I think they are saying something. They are saying that only 33% of the market is going up, the rest has already turned down from where we spotted them on 9 Nov in TST. They are also saying we can not move against gravity, as steeper the rise more unsustainable it is.

Markets can go up against gravity only with two things, one is rocket fuel in terms of volume and second is when there are very few fools left without stocks and the smart generation is already invested. Bharti, the newcomer we studied last time breached our targeted levels of 580, to poke up at psychological 600 in the last 30 mins. This is the rocket we watch keenly.

Log channels of 6 years and normal scales of multi year stand broken. A majority of Indices turned down from our anticipated levels. Here’s for you the lines we love, all marked with preferred and alternate counts, a beautiful fractal in the end and one of our classic not so old published column.

GOLD SILVER RATIO

Did you know that the price relationship between Gold and Silver is not fixed? It varies substantially. And it has predictive value too. As in different market environments, the value of Gold is perceived differently than Silver. Gold is perceived as an important crisis commodity. As fear replaces confidence, Gold increases in value relative to Silver. For example risks of economic and political upheaval. When the market risks are low Silver is preferred over Gold, as the white metal has many industrial uses and the consumption of Silver grows in a rising economy.

The last time the value for the ratio dipped below 1 was in 1997 and then the South East Asian crisis broke leading to a bounce back in ratio. And since 1984 the ratio has never been below parity. At this stage after 22 years the ratio is headed down below 1 again. Rather it is now ruling at sub 1 level. Now there are two ways to see it, one that we are in for more prosper times that we have not witnessed since 1984. If this is true Gold should continue to fall relatively to silver, or underperform silver. Second way to look at it is that we are once again sitting at the edge of a crisis, which might be just around the corner. At this stage, we have a falling five wave ratio line. This means that there is no fear in the market and hence this maybe not an opportune time to go long on the crisis commodity yet.

Our alternate count on Silver saw the metal moving up to fill the anticipate gap level at 12.6. Our back up count on Gold also saw it touching anticipated levels. However, we still believe that Metals overall continue to move against a price overhang. Above 640 many things change for our Gold count. At this stage we anticipate resistances ahead for Gold, Silver, MCX – Gold Near, HUI – Gold Bugs, NEM Newmont Mining Corp, GFI Gold Fields Limited and XAU – Gold and Silver Index, at 640, 13.2, 9300, 340, 47.4, 18 and 144 respectively.

The Lone Voice

Not very many pepole care about Siberia. I remember my father told me to take off the poster describing women as they age. The poster, I remember said that when a woman is old she is like Siberia and no one wants to go there. At that time I really did not understand why my father could not let me have some hot poster comparing woman sexuality to Persia and Siberia.

15 years have passed since then and now I know people who worked in Siberia. Actually, I just met one last evening. His lone voice guided him to take the call. My father’s lesson felt rash that time, but now I think I have come a full circle. I heard my lone voice too. Just like Serbia, they had not even heard of Romania, when I came here. Will you believe it, some friends back home looked down on what they thought was a non – descript Eastern European mafia nation. Many disuaded me from taking the step.

Well! I am happy I took it. Today, the lone voice which guided me then keeps me ahead of times. The same lone voice could help me see exciting things about the nation, like the football team, great culture, english speaking young population, a bigger consumption market than Hungary and Czech put together, warm people and above all a currency called RON.

It was this RON that we studied in NOV 05 and said this in our report – Despite central bank interferences, we expect RON to test 3.0 levels before any pullbacks. This is a strengthening of about 14% from current levels. This is about 10% more than expected Dollar strengthening against Euro. This positivity will rub on the local stock markets, as it remains attractive viz a viz its western counterparts. As we mentioned prior, all this turns out to be a benefit for consumers who borrow in Euro and save in RON.

The lone voice did it again. After 13 months Bloomberg came with this news on Dec 11. 2006 – Romania’s leu surpassed all European currencies to become the world’s best performer this year and is poised for more gains because foreign investment may double as the former communist dictatorship enters the European Union.

The lone voice always helps. It helps us understand stories before anybody does.
